U.S. Mint’s 250th Anniversary Silver Proof Set Returns
The U.S. Mint has reopened sales of the 2026 Semiquincentennial Silver Proof Set at $245 after the set was unavailable for much of the period following its June 11 launch. The issue has been a strong seller: opening sales hit 261,516, or 96.4% of the revised 271,250 mintage cap, before later downward adjustments reduced total reported sales to 213,787, still 78.8% of the limit. The set contains 1.473 troy ounces of silver across seven silver anniversary designs, including the Emerging Liberty dime, all five anniversary quarters and the Enduring Liberty half dollar. CoinNews said secondary-market prices on eBay were running roughly $310 to $349.95, averaging about $326 on June 21, implying a premium of around $81, or 33%, over Mint issue price. Individual coins were also trading richly, with the proof Lincoln cent averaging about $128 and the silver half dollar around $109. The return of direct Mint availability is likely to cool secondary-market premiums in the near term by giving collectors another purchase channel at the official price. While this is more numismatic than macro silver flow, it still signals solid collector demand for silver-containing products and could keep attention on Mint silver offerings into the July 4 semiquincentennial cycle.
